Wedge Words: Pliner On His New Shoe Collection by:
"My favorite design for spring is the '70s-inspired wedge. You get the height but also comfort. Anyone can wear a wedge," Donald J. Pliner told FWD at the presentation of his spring and fall 2002 shoe and bag lines in New
York.
Spring sees flat sandals in leather and suede with buckle and diamante details, and heeled mules in green, tan and yellow. Dressier shoes include the fabulous white and navy grommet strappy heel, which comes with a matching grommet strap
handbag.
Pliner has also reintroduced a shoe he designed for Miss Universe a couple of years ago. An elasticized heel plum number, light and comfortable enough to run around at work in, but high and elegant enough for a cocktail party.
"All our shoes have elastic implemented somewhere. It makes the shoe comfortable and balanced as it moves with your foot," Pliner explained to
FWD.
Fall includes mid-calf paisley leather cowboy boots in tan and a deep cheery red, a denim and tan knee-high boot and Pliner's version of the Timberland: a low-heeled hook and eye ankle boot.
